Mark Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge Meeting

In September the Installation meeting of the Mark Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge of Surrey No 1726 was held at the Croydon Masonic Hall.

After opening the Lodge, the Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Andrew Ford, PAGSwdB, welcomed RW.Bro. Ian Clark, Provincial Grand Master, and offered him the gavel. The RW. Provincial Grand Master thanked the Worshipful Master for the courtesy and returned it to him as he would be doing some work later on.

A eulogy was given by the Worshipful Master in memory of RW.Bro. Harry Malthouse, PGSW, PDepProvGM, a Founder and Primus Master of the Lodge. The Brethren stood to order in memory of RW.Bro. Harry Malthouse and W.Bro. Ivan Champion, PGSD, PProvGSO. The RW. Provincial Grand Master was then saluted with seven under the direction of the Director of Ceremonies.

The Worshipful Master -welcomed our many guests and visitors, which included the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, VW.Bro. Richard Baker, the Assistant Provincial Grand Masters, W.Bros. Chris Eley and John French. A special welcome to RW.Bro. Ray Hussey, Past Provincial Grand Master, an Honorary Member of the Lodge, and VW.Bro. Arnold Long, PGJO, PAProvGM. There were also a number of guests from other Provinces.

A ballot was taken for six joining members. This proved in their favour and they were escorted to the Worshipful Master to be welcomed into the Lodge and presented with a copy of the By-Laws of the Lodge.

The Lodge Banner was then paraded and the Junior Warden explained the history of the Banner. The names of Brethren who had departed to the Grand Lodge Above during the year, were read by the Chaplain.

As is the tradition in this Lodge the RW Provincial Grand Master was then invited to install the Master Elect, VW.Bro. Chris Cradock, PGJO, PProvGSW. This he did in a very sincere and enjoyable manner. The Address to the Master was given by W.Bro. Andrew Ford.

The Worshipful Master then appointed and invested W.Bro. Terry Carpenter and W.Bro. Richard Knox as the Senior and Junior Wardens of the Lodge. The Address to the Wardens was given by W.Bro. John French, the Address to the Overseers by W.Bro. Terry Carpenter and the Address to the Brethren by VW.Bro. Richard Baker.

The Provincial Grand Master had much pleasure in presenting the Worshipful Master with a Patron collaret thanking the Lodge for its support for the 2022 MBF Festival.

The Worshipful Master gave a most interesting talk about the background to the Lodge’s formation 25 years ago, which was well received by all present.

After the Charity Steward, W.Bro. Mick Clay, had given his report the Provincial Grand Master had much pleasure in presenting him with an MBF collaret thanking him for the work he does as Charity Steward in the Lodge, as well as his personal support for the Festival.

After the Lodge was closed the Worshipful Master accompanying the RW Provincial Grand Master and honoured guests retired in procession under the direction of the Director of Ceremonies. In the evening the members of the Mark Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge of Surrey and their many guests dined together in perfect harmony honouring loyal and Masonic toasts.
